Grout use is estimated from tile size, joint width and tile thickness using each grout’s density. Epoxy grouts (Sumoxy 2K / 3K) are supplied as pre-weighed kits — round up to whole kits. Rough or porous tile edges and wide joints use more; always confirm against the product datasheet.
This calculator computes grout weight from the actual joint volume — tile size, joint width and joint depth (your tile’s thickness) — times the density of the grout you pick: 1.75 kg/L for SUMOXY epoxy, 1.6 kg/L for SUMOTG cement grout. It is the same formula estimators use, with nothing rounded to a marketing number.

Small tiles have far more joint per m² — that is why mosaic uses ~6× the grout of a 600 × 600 floor, and why joint width matters more than tile brand.

SUMOTG cement grout ≈ 9% less by weight for the same joints (density 1.6 vs 1.75 kg/L). Deeper tiles = deeper joints = proportionally more grout.
Tile edge profile — cushion-edged (bevelled) tiles open a wider V at the surface and take noticeably more grout than sharp rectified edges at the same spacer size.
Joint depth is the full tile thickness — a 10 mm porcelain tile takes 25% more grout than an 8 mm ceramic at identical joints.
Spacer discipline — joints that wander between 2 mm and 4 mm across a floor average wider than planned, and the bag runs out early.
Part-kit mixing — every epoxy mix leaves pot residue; three small mixes waste more than one right-sized mix.
Epoxy grout quantity planning is inseparable from workflow: you buy kits sized to what you can place inside the pot life.
Work in small sections — grout, then clean each section within the haze window before moving on.
Mix components fully and only as much as the next section needs; an over-batched kit cures in the bucket, not the joint.
Keep washing water clean and change it often — dirty water re-deposits haze that takes the shine off epoxy joints.
Wide floors go faster with two people: one grouting, one washing behind.

9.29 × 0.16 ≈ 1.5 kg of mixed epoxy grout.
For contrast: the same area in 100 × 100 mm mosaic at 3 mm needs ≈ 5.9 kg — four times more.
On 600 × 600 mm vitrified tiles, 1 kg of SUMOXY covers about 9.5 m² (≈ 100 sq.ft) at a 2 mm joint, or about 6.4 m² at 3 mm. On small mosaic it drops to under 2.5 m² — joint length per m² is what decides it.
Yes — consumption scales linearly with joint width: going from 2 mm to 3 mm is +50% grout; 2 mm to 4 mm doubles it. Joint width and tile size dominate the estimate; everything else is minor.
For the same joints, cement grout (SUMOTG, 1.6 kg/L) weighs about 9% less than epoxy (1.75 kg/L). The real difference is performance: epoxy joints are impervious, stain-free and chemical-resistant; cement joints are economical and easy to work.
Only mix what you can place within the pot life on the datasheet. SUMOXY comes in 1 kg and 5 kg kits — for small areas, several 1 kg kits beat one part-used 5 kg kit.
Rectified vitrified tiles are typically laid with 2 mm joints (use spacers); ceramic and natural stone commonly take 3 mm or more. Never butt-joint tiles with zero gap — joints absorb movement.
